Creature Castle was founded in 2024 by Tom Peteuil and Katie Sommers.
Based in East Sussex, we have a keen interest in creating artwork fuelled by folklore, mythology, nature and all things fantasy.
Passionate about traditional techniques and handmade art, we create detailed pieces with a focus on storytelling and character. We hope the creatures we create, whether a watercolour, digital painting or puppet, inspires you to look for the magic in the unexpected.
MEET THE ARTISTS
Katie is a puppeteer, illustrator and animator with a BA in animation from the University of the Arts London. Her animation work has been screened at the BFI and BBC and she often creates animations for live theatre shows and trailers.
Katie lovingly handcrafts the puppets for puppet theatre company Rust and Stardust, from little fluffy dogs, to six foot mermen and everything in between.
In addition to her work for Rust & Stardust, Katie has made puppets and performed for a number of productions, including Atomic Force Productions, Bright Moon Theatre, Feral Theatre, Trinity Theatre, Cranbrook Operatic and Dramatic Society, Little Angel Theatre and the Birmingham Repertory.
Puppet commissions include adaptations of children's book characters and for theatre companies across Kent and Sussex.
Katie teaches puppet making in workshops for all ages with Rust & Stardust and is the Education Producer at Trinity Theatre in Tunbridge Wells.
Tom is a fantasy illustrator, working in both digital and traditional mediums.

He has a wealth of creative experience, from being a Prop Designer and Maker for theatrical productions and festivals and a 3D Designer for corporate companies, but his main passion lies in illustration.
Taking inspiration from fantasy, folklore and the natural world, he creates creature art that is mystical, magical and sometimes erring towards the shadows.

Storytelling plays a key role in his pieces, which are influenced by the likes of Tolkien, Dungeons and Dragons and mythology.
